Teaching Practice Setting

AL Andalus Girls Primary School

AL Andalus Primary Girls School, a government school located in Sharjah in Al Qouz area near Wasit police station. The school has above 100 faculty and more than 500 students from Emirates nationality. The school teaches from grade 1 mixed genders and to grade 4. I was teaching five sections in grade three students English subject. The classrooms are structured in a very warm, wide, and friendly atmosphere. The total of the students that I taught in the elementary were 128 students. Each classroom accommodates from 25 to 27 students. Among the sections, there were more than 15 students who are considered as high levels and the rest considered middle and low. I was teaching 30-period per week and a maximum of 5 lessons each day. The students were friendly, and they love to interact and communicate with each other. Once, I gave them the activities I really notice how they engage and collaborate with each other to complete them. I was very glad to teach them, and I really enjoyed the whole duration of the teaching practice in AL Andalus School.

Implementing Learning

I implemented different sets of activities in order to empower students' engagement. I used a different set of materials that aid students' cognitive development. Each lesson has different utilized tools and materials which are aligned with the learning objectives. Hence, performing would be rich and solid toward learning.

Effective hands-on materials and resources were used for the lessons

Self assessment

Self-assessments were used as a formative assessment which allowed students to be responsible and independent about their learning. Also its provided me with intensive data about their performance, attitude, and behavior.

Reflection on Practice

The strengths during this teaching practice were:

Implementing a variety of activities that suit students' abilities. Many tools were used to support their learning such as interactive videos and PowerPoints, meaningful materials as well. Incorporating collaborative learning through applying think, pair, share strategy, where students were communicating and discussing each other. Thus, developing skills and comprehensions in students. According to Vygotsky's theory of ZPD, students can achieve more if they get support and guidance from peers. Thus, students will be able to observe practical skills and knowledge.

The weaknesses during this teaching practice were:

Insufficient use of English during writing and talking.
Using Arabic more than English to deliver the lesson to the class.
Differentiation of multiple learnings needs
Instructions were not clear enough for some of the students.
Absence of adequate Examples which led to misconceptions.

Practice improvements

Design lessons based on students styles of learning.
Assess students by using effective formative assessments.
Adjust lessons content to meet students' needs.
Create safe learning through managing behaviors and classroom.
Group students by shared interest and topics.
